DAIRY  workers made redundant earlier this month have begun their journey back to work at a special job hunting session in Lincoln.

Representatives from Jobcentre Plus, training specialists Lagat, recruitment experts OTR and the City of Lincoln Council were on hand at the Drill Hall to offer one to one advice to many of the 127 people who lost their jobs when the Boultham Dairy closed its doors.

And after reading of the workers plight in the Echo, local training firm EMITT, part of the F1 Group, are putting up £4,000 to offer eight former dairy workers a chance to train to become IT support technicians.

The four week, self-taught program, with a two day intensive refresher course included before the exams, could begin within a fortnight.

Andrew Bel-Dean, a Microsoft certified trainer at EMITT, said the timing of the training could be perfect, with schools and colleges looking to hire support staff during their summer holidays.

"Losing 130 jobs in Lincoln is quite a big thing," he said.

"And we had some money left over in our training budget for this year, so our board wanted to help."
